Specific care for laminate floors may vary depending on its style and finish. While not impenetrable, laminate isn’t as susceptible as true hardwood to scratches, dents and dings. Still, simple precautions such as using floor mats at doors and under furniture to catch dirt and prevent scratching will help ensure the laminate maintains its original luster. Laminate floors cannot be sanded and refinished; therefore, adhering to a regular cleaning schedule and taking a few simple precautions are key to a preserving a laminate floor’s beauty.
The basic maintenance for all laminate floors is the same:
- Sweep or vacuum (without the use of a beater bar) regularly to prevent dirt and grit from scratching the floor.
- Occasionally wipe the floor with a damp mop, without allowing water to stand on the floor surface.
- Periodically clean the floor with a manufacturer approved cleaning product.
